Three boys attacked in Caraway classroom, police say

— Authorities in northeast Arkansas say a man attacked three boys in a classroom this week.

Caraway police officer Kevin Tucker said there wasn’t a teacher in the classroom when 47-year-old Michael Stayton attacked the 8-, 9- and 10-year-old boys Tuesday.

Tucker said authorities suspect Stayton was under the influence of methamphetamine when he grabbed one of the boys at Riverside East Elementary School. Authorities said Stayton also threatened to stab a boy.

Tucker said one boy’s parents said he has a broken bone.

Court documents show Stayton of Caraway was arrested on charges of terroristic threatening, battery and false imprisonment. He was ordered to be held in lieu of $100,000 bond.

He was appointed a public defender, but the office said Friday that an attorney hadn’t been assigned to his case.
