LR officer victim of hit-and-run accident

Little Rock police are searching for a suspect Friday after an officer was a victim of a Thursday hit-and-run accident.

Little Rock Police Department Sgt. Cassandra Davis said in an e-mail Friday that Officer Jeffrey Harris was hit at the intersection of West 33rd and South Bishop streets about 9:21 p.m. by a black 2006 Buick while on patrol.

Davis said the vehicle fled the scene, heading north on Bishop Street. Harris called in the accident and told dispatch that he was in pursuit of the vehicle, Davis said in the e-mail. During his pursuit, Harris' vehicle began smoking and was forced to stop.

Davis said Officer Brian Osmundson took over the pursuit. After several minutes, Osmundson lost track of the vehicle but found it unoccupied with the engine running in an alley.

Harris experienced a headache, believed to be from his head striking a window during the collision, and was examined by the company nurse, but will be able to immediately return to full duty with no restrictions, Davis said.
