Two charged in Bryant burglary, shootout

Two people have been arrested in connection with a shootout Tuesday in Bryant that left a police officer injured and a suspect dead.

Bryant Police Department Sgt. Todd Crowson said Dolly Burnett, 38, and Lonnie Ridling, 24, met fugitive Thomas O'Dell after his car ran out of gas on Interstate 30 and then helped him plan a burglary at the Fred's Store in Bryant. The pair also drove O'Dell to the business in a truck stolen in Missouri.

Officer Scott Johnson responded to an alarm at Fred's that night, exchanging gunfire with O'Dell outside the store.

Johnson was hit multiple times but survived. O'Dell, who was wanted in Illinois on aggravated-robbery and first-degree-murder charges, died from his injuries.

Burnett and Ridling are each facing charges of theft by receiving, commercial burglary and obstruction of governmental operations. Burnett is also facing a charge of theft of property.

Police say capital-murder charges are also possible because of O'Dell's death during the crime.

Burnett and Ridling are being held without bail.
