Searcy police investigate apparent homicide

Searcy police say one man is dead following a shooting Sunday afternoon at the Searcy Apartments at 801 N. Pine St.

Searcy police say one man is dead as a result of a shooting Sunday afternoon at the Searcy Apartments.

Police say officers responded to the complex at 801 N. Pine St. in reference to shots fired. While on scene, witnesses told officers that a vehicle left the complex "driving erratically," and that 27-year-old Chris Pruitt, of Searcy, was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound.

Police said further investigation determined the erratically-operated car was the vehicle that transported Pruitt to the hospital.

Pruitt was later pronounced dead at the White County Medical Center, according to police.

Searcy Police Department spokesman Steve Hernandez said in an e-mail that detectives are on scene, investigating the incident.
