Man slain in LR trailer park

A Little Rock man died early Monday morning after he was shot in his southwest Little Rock mobile home late Sunday night.

Little Rock Police Department spokesman Sgt. Cassandra Davis, as well as Pulaski County Coroner Gerone Hobbs, declined to identify the 32-year-old Hispanic male - the city’s fifth homicide this year- because his next of kin had not been notified.

According to Davis, officers went to 8510 Scott Hamilton Drive at 10:22 p.m. for a “shots fired” call but were told while on the way that there was a gunshot victim at the No. 17 lot.

The officers found the victim with several gunshot wounds, lying next to a parked vehicle, according to reports.

Inside the man’s residence, officers found blood, a handgun on the floor and a kitchen faucet that was “shooting [water] in the air,” reports said.

The man was taken to the UAMS Medical Center where he died from his injuries shortly before 3 a.m.

At around 3:37 a.m., more than five hours after the victim was shot, a gold Chevrolet pulled up to the crime scene, reports said.

The driver, later identified as Clarence Mixon, tried to get into the victim’s trailer, reports said. Police stopped him on the edge of the police tape and asked him what he was doing, and Mixon told him that he was there to meet a “black male he knew as Jackie Rice AKA ‘Jack Ball,’” reports said.

While speaking with Mixon, officers noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from him and his vehicle, reports said.

Mixon consented to a search after he told police that the car belonged to his sister. Inside a cup holder, officers found a bag of separately packaged baggies of powder cocaine and crack cocaine, reports said.

Mixon was arrested and charged with felony possession of cocaine with purpose to deliver.

Davis said that the motive behind the man’s slaying remained unclear Monday. She did not have any descriptions of suspects but said it was possible that police were looking for more than one individual in connection with the slaying.
