Second thoughts

Tyson now a soy, tofu kind of guy

Mike Tyson’s carnivorous days are over. The former boxer has gone vegan.

In an interview for “Oprah:Where Are They Now” Tyson explained his choice:

“Becoming a vegan gave me another opportunity to live a healthy life,” said Tyson, 46. “I was so congested from all the drugs and bad cocaine, I could hardly breathe, [I had] high blood pressure, [was] almost dying [and had] arthritis. And once I became a vegan all that stuff diminished.”

When he first tried a vegetarian diet last year, Tyson told Ann Curry on “The Today Show” that he was tired of the direction his life had taken.

“I just threw up the white flag,” Tyson said. “Too many prison cells, too many jails, too many lawsuits, too many bankruptcies, too many women, too many venereal diseases, too many everything. I got tired … of every time my prostitute girl got back from a trip, I had to sleep with her. I’m going to live a different life.”

Let’s just hope he stays away from cauliflower ears.

All a-Twitter

Golf Digest writer Dan Jenkins, tweeting live from the Masters, had a few insights over the weekend:

From Sunday’s final round, in which Adam Scott became the first Australian to win the Masters, beating Argentinian Angel Cabrera in a two-hole playoff:

“That’s 19 consecutive majors that Tiger hasn’t won (didn’t play in four of them). Hasn’t won the Masters since 2005 or a major since 2008.

“What were the odds of Argentina taking over the green jacket and the Vatican in the same year?

From Saturday’s third round, highlighted by Tiger Woods’ two stroke penalty for an illegal drop during Friday’s round:

“If Tiger wins this week, I imagine a Roger Maris call from the great beyond to discuss the joys of having an asterisk attached to your name.

“The Masters committee has issued a second warning to the kitchen for messing up the pimento-cheese sandwiches.

From Friday’s second round, highlighted by a slow-play penalty for 14-year-old amateur Tianlang Guan:

“International incident avoided: Missed putt by Aussie after slow play penalty by European Tour ref keeps 14-year-old Chinese kid in Masters.

“Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson has been penalized four strokes today for poor play.

“I just got my first warning for slow tweeting.

From Thursday’s opening round:

“Tiger’s swing might be a little restricted this week, wearing that fifth green jacket that everybody’s already put on him.

Funny man

NBA player Blake Griffin, 24, is already preparing for his second career - making people laugh.

No joke.

“I didn’t get into basketball so I’d have the opportunity to do commercials and do comedy,” Griffin told Dan Woike of The Orange County Register in Santa Ana, Calif. “It just presented itself, and I ran with it.”

So far, most of Griffin’s comedic work has been in front of the camera, both on TV and the Internet, working with comedian Will Ferrell, Chappelle’s Show co-creator Neal Brennan and Saturday Night Live head writer Seth Meyers, but he said he’d like to write or direct sketches or movies, and he’s always dreamed about “Saturday Night Live.”

“Whenever I tell people Blake Griffin is funny, they’re like, ‘Oh, whatever. That’s nice,’” Brennan said. “But he could be a professional comedy writer.”

“If he was 5-foot-11, he’d be working at a Subway, appropriately enough,” Brennan said. “He’d have a day job, but he’d be going to open mikes. He’d be going to that day job tired.

“I believe he has a future. I know he could do it. I just know.”

When you know, you know.

You know?
