Angler finds body of missing officer

WYNNE - Authorities in Cross County say they have recovered the body of a Wynne police officer who disappeared on the St. Francis River in January.

The Cross County sheriff’s office said an angler found the body of 24-year-old Nicolas Swink on Saturday afternoon.

Sheriff J.R. Smith told Jonesboro television station KAIT-TV, Channel 8 that Swink was identified by his wallet, badge and other identification found with the body.

Volunteers and rescue crews worked for weeks to find Swink after he vanished.

Officials say Swink was with friends and not on duty when he fell from a bridge into the river Jan. 11.

Swink worked as a Wynne officer for four years and was to have started with the sheriff’s office in January.
