Adolphus Busch IV resigns from NRA

By The Associated Press

This article was published April 19, 2013 at 7:39 a.m.

ST. LOUIS — Adolphus Busch IV has resigned from the National Rifle Association to protest the failure of gun control bills in the U.S. Senate.

Busch, whose great-grandfather founded Anheuser-Busch, sent a letter to the NRA on Thursday criticizing its decision to fight an expansion of gun background checks. He says the overwhelming majority of NRA members supported the expansion and contends that NRA's work against the proposal ignored its members' wishes in favor of gun and ammunition manufacturers.

Busch also criticized the group for its stand against a ban on assault weapons and large capacity magazines. He was a member of the NRA since 1975 and has been known as a staunch gun rights advocate.

KSDK reported that NRA officials would not immediately comment on letter.

If Mr. Busch said what the Associated Press indicates I doubt very seriously the accuracy of Mr. Busch's statement. However, I am skeptical of the AP's reporting accuracy. If Mr. Busch actually said what is attributed to him, I seriously doubt he talked with every NRA member in the country and tabulated his findings of their responses. The Associated Press and other left leaning news organizations would have you believe such rubbish: some folks will swallow that stuff!

I'm getting really tired of hearing this "90% of Americans" crap. Check out the recent Gallup poll where only 4% of Americans said that they thought gun control was an important issue.

If 90% of Americans support it, then use the CONSTITUTIONAL amendment process and it should pass easily, right?

Sounds to me like Busch IV is p-whipped. Regardless, I will no longer purchase any of his products. I prefer Blue Moon to Shock Top, anyway.

So what exactly would be bad about expanding background checks?

Sounds like he has a conscience. No wonder he couldn't remain in the NRA.

djigoo - are you insinuating that NRA is beholding to the fear-mongering soulless firearms industry, which is composed of people that obviously don’t care that children are being murdered as long as they keep making that money ?

Hey BpLr - "So what exactly would be bad about expanding background checks?" It's bad because it will accomplish absolutely nothing while making law-abiding citizens jump through more governmental hoops for NO useful purpose. Do you agree in principle with the government passing laws that restrict individual rights if the law has absolutely no effect on its stated purpose?

Packman - what is that law's stated purpose?
