Crews respond to industrial fire in Harrison

HARRISON — Crews responded to a fire at Pace Industries in Harrison on Sunday morning.

Boone County office of emergency services director Mike Smithyman said the fire was reported at the factory around 9:20 a.m. Smithyman said there were no injuries, and no hazardous material were involved in the blaze. Smithyman estimated around 30 to 35 employees being in the building at the time of the fire.

Smithyman said four to five agencies responded, in addition to the Harrison Fire Department.

Smithyman said it appeared the fire was started by a small aluminum die that malfunctioned.

The fire at Pace Industries, located on the Arkansas Highway 62/65 Bypass, caused the closure of the road from the North Interchange in Harrison to Spring Street, according to Smithyman.

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said in a Twitter message just after 1 p.m. Sunday that road had been reopened.

Pace Industries is a small die casting facility that opened in Harrison in 1970, according to the company website.
