Historical Society Meeting
ASH FLAT — The Sharp County Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. in the Ash Flat Library meeting room. Art Showcase

Gem and Mineral Club Meeting
CHEROKEE VILLAGE — The Spring River Gem and Mineral Club will hold its May program, Fascinating Minerals, at 10 a.m. Guest speaker Mike Howard, a mineralogist for the Arkansas Geological Survey, will talk about the unusual minerals found on the Kola Peninsula of Russia. Those in attendance will have an opportunity to view Kola mineral specimens that have been donated to the club by the Cherokee Village widow of rockhound Don Schmerling.

Rummage Sale
SEARCY — St. James Catholic Church in Searcy will sponsor a spring rummage sale from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday. There will be an early sale from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday with a $5 entrance fee. Items in the sale are from two estates and will include household items, furniture, appliances and more. Proceeds will support the youth and campus ministries of the parish. The sale will be in the St. James Parish Life building at 1102 Pioneer Road behind the newly constructed church, about four blocks south of the Carmichael Center. Beginners Photography Class
BATESVILLE — Tony McGuffey, who has won awards for newspaper photography, will teach a beginners photography class from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and May 6 at the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce, 409 Vine St. A field trip will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday to apply techniques learned in the classroom. Ms. Senior White County Pageant
SEARCY — The fourth annual Ms. Senior White County Pageant will be held at 6 p.m. at the John E. Lightle Center, 2200 E. Moore St. White County women 60 and older are eligible to enter the pageant. Author of the Month
ASH FLAT — Poet and author Patricia A. Oplinger of Cherokee Village is the Author of the Month for May at the Ash Flat Public Library and will visit the library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Oplinger has written award-winning, essays, book reviews, columns, and travel and humor pieces for newspapers, literary magazines and online sources. Her poems have been published in various journals, magazines and books. In 1997, she established and continues as a mentor for The Storybook Project, a literacy/prison ministry program in Arkansas.
Church Rummage Sale

One-Act-Play Contest
SEARCY — The Performing Arts Center on the Square is accepting submissions for its first original-one-act-play contest. All subject matter is welcome.
