Truck runs off road, hits trees; driver killed

A truck driver was killed Sunday in Woodruff County when his 2013 Freightliner ran off the highway and hit multiple trees.

Arkansas State Police say it happened shortly before 9 a.m. as Jimmy K. Schwede, 50, was driving north on U.S. 49 south of Fair Oaks.

According to a preliminary report, the truck left the road and "struck several trees." Schwede died from unspecified injuries.

It wasn't clear what caused the truck to leave the road. The report described conditions at the time as clear and dry.

Schwede was the 146th person to die in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
