Two northeast Arkansas men were indicted Wednesday, Aug. 7, in federal court on charges that they attempted to persuade a minor to engage in a criminal sexual act.
Kenneth Wayne Thompson, 21, of Bradford, and Cade Vardell, 19, of Jonesboro, turned themselves in to authorities after investigators interviewed them about a youth who ran away from home, according to a statement released Tuesday from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Arkansas.
Authorities obtained the youth's phone from the mother during the investigation and interviewed several individuals who had come in contact with the child through the phone.
Thompson and Vardell were charged with one count of enticement of a minor to engage in criminal sexual conduct.
If convicted, the men face 10 years to life in prison and a $250,000 fine, along with up to five years supervised probation if released.
