MOPS Play Date
CONWAY — The Conway chapter of Mother of Preschoolers will offer a play date today at Laurel Park in Conway. The Kona Ice Truck will be there from 9-11:30 a.m., selling snow cones for $3, $4 and $5. The event is also a fundraiser for the local MOPS chapter, which meets twice each month during the school year, providing child care while moms are encouraged and equipped with activities and messages for motherhood. RUSSELLVILLE — Arkansas Hospice will host volunteer training at 10 a.m. at its Russellville office, 2405 E. Parkway, Suite 3. Lunch will be provided. Arkansas Hospice volunteers must complete this training to be certified hospice volunteers. The program, conducted by hospice professionals and volunteers, is open to anyone who wants to learn about hospice or who is interested in volunteering. High school and college students are welcome to attend. After completing the training, certified volunteers will be eligible for assignment to a hospice patient/family if they wish. Other volunteer opportunities include helping with office work, special events and specialized volunteering, such as pet therapy. CONWAY/GREENBRIER — Local author Nancy Powell will return to the Faulkner County Library in Conway to introduce her newest book, Angels for All, at a book signing from 10 a.m. to noon. ADONA — The Adona Volunteer Fire Department will host a benefit barbecue dinner for Paul Tippit at 5 p.m. at the Perry County Fairgrounds’ multipurpose building. A menu of barbecue chicken, baked beans, baked potatoes, salad and dessert will be served, and live music will be provided. The cost is $10 per entry. All proceeds will go toward Tippit’s medical expenses.
SAINT VINCENT — The Knights of Columbus Council 10908 in Saint Vincent will sponsor its annual spaghetti and meatball supper from 5-8 p.m. at the St. Mary Church Parish Hall (nine miles north of Interstate 40 on Arkansas 95). The meal cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 5-12 years old. Adult take-out meals will be available. CONWAY — The Conway AARP Chapter will have its monthly meeting and lunch at the Conway Senior Citizen Center, with lunch at 11:30 a.m., followed by a meeting and program at noon. The speaker will be Shenel Sandidge, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Faulkner County.
Arts Council Annual Meeting
MORRILTON — The Arts Council of Conway County will hold its annual meeting at 6 p.m. in The Gallery at 213 E. CONWAY — The Conway League of Artists is taking applications for membership. The league meets at 7 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month at the Faulkner County Library in Conway. CONWAY — Gwendolyn Middleton will present a free Career Preparedness training seminar from 10-11 a.m. Aug. 24 at the Faulkner County Library. This session is open to the public.
