Miss. man shoots stepson in self-defense

PEARL — Pearl police in Mississippi say no charges are being filed in the case of a 62-year-old man who shot and killed his 40-year-old stepson.

A police news release said the Friday morning shooting appears to be a case of self-defense.

Police say Andrew Groseclose and Richard Groseclose got into an argument at their residence in Pearl. Richard is believed to have pulled a gun. Andrew then pulled his own gun and shot the younger man in the chest.

"Witness statements confirm this scenario," Lt. Butch Townsend, spokesman for the Pearl Police Department, said in a news release. Townsend said only one shot was fired.

Although no charges are expected, the autopsy and investigation results will likely be turned over to the next session of a Rankin County Grand Jury, Townsend said.
