WASHINGTON, Ark. — The Old Washington Farmers Market is putting on a watermelon contest.
The Aug. 31 event will feature a weigh-off and $1,000 in prize money.
The Sentinel-Record reported that area gardeners are invited to participate in the contest put on by the Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce for the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth.
The Great Pumpkin Commonwealth provides official venues for growers to weigh several varieties of fruit and vegetables, including watermelons, across the country.
Only one official entry will be considered per farmer or team.
