Childhood obesity topic of Little Rock lecture

The founder of Yale University's Prevention Research Center is scheduled to speak in Little Rock on Tuesday on preventing childhood obesity, the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service has said.

David Katz is the editor in chief of the journal Childhood Obesity, which explores weight-management strategies in children and adolescents; president-elect of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine; and founder and president of the nonprofit Turn the Tide Foundation, which aims to combat obesity through creative yet practical programs, the school said.

Katz nominated in 2009 for the post of U.S. surgeon general by American College of Physicians and the American College of Preventive Medicine, among other groups, according to his online biography.

The speech is scheduled for noon Tuesday at the Clinton School's Sturgis Hall. The lecture is free and public, but reservations are required and may be obtained by emailing publicprograms@clintonschool.uasys.edu or by calling (501) 683-5239.
