Two Jonesboro men have been charged in a Newport man's death, Jackson County Sherriff David Lucas said in a statement Thursday.
Christopher Lee, 21, and Garrett Chambliss, 20, have been charged with aggravated robbery and for the abuse of Harald Lee Hagar's corpse, Lucas said in an email. Lee also is charged on a separate count of first-degree murder for the death of 66-year-old Hagar, Lucas said. Both men's bonds have been set at $500,000.
Lee and Chambliss are scheduled to appear before Circuit Judge Harold Erwin on Sept. 19, Lucas said.
On Tuesday, police found Hagar's body about 12:40 p.m. in a ditch on County Road 42, Lucas said.
Hagar appeared to have a gunshot wound in his head, police said. His body will be sent to the state Crime Laboratory for an autopsy.
