Fall Theater Auditions
BEEBE — The Arkansas State University-Beebe Theater Department will hold auditions for the fall theater productions of The Rocky Horror Show and The Merry Wives of Windsor at 7 p.m. Aug. 22 and 23 at the Owen Center Theater. Callbacks for Rocky Horror will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 23. The auditions are open to community members, as well as ASU-Beebe students. Auditioners may perform a prepared monologue or readings from the script. Those auditioning for singing roles in Rocky Horror need to bring 16 measures of rock ’n’ roll music to perform. An accompanist will be provided. Pre-recorded accompaniment music is also allowed, or those auditioning may perform a cappella. Dance auditions, if needed, will be held as a call-back. The Rocky Horror Show will be performed Oct. 10-12. The Merry Wives of Windsor will be performed Nov. 18-20. A Year With Frog and Toad
SEARCY — The Harding University 2013-14 theater season begins with A Year With Frog and Toad at 7 p.m. today through Saturday, and at 2 p.m. Saturday, in the Ulrey Performing Arts Center. This Tony-nominated musical, part vaudeville and part make-believe, tells the story of a friendship that endures through a jazzy, upbeat score for the whole family to enjoy. Civil War in Songs
NEWPORT — Jacksonport State Park will present Civil War in Songs at 6:30 p.m. at the campground. The free event is a musical telling of the Civil War with the songs that shaped the period of strife. The program covers the ups and downs of not just famous battles and generals, but of the everyday citizens who endured the Civil War’s hardship. Kiwanis Fishing Derby
BATESVILLE — The Kiwanis Fishing Derby will be held from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Rowe Lake in Batesville. There is no fee to fish, and bait will be available. Prizes will be given away, and there will be volunteers to assist fishermen. Registration will take place upon arrival under the tent. The fish will be provided by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

CALICO ROCK — The Calico Rock Museum will observe the 100th anniversary of the first passenger train to arrive in Calico Rock with activities from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A freight train will stop at 11 a.m. at the Main Street crossing for a ceremony. Attendees are encouraged to dress in period costume, with a contest for the Best 1903 Costume. There will also be a miniature-train ride for children and a contest for the Best Dessert. Golf Tournament
CHEROKEE VILLAGE — The Lions Club’s 49th annual Charlie Rice Memorial Golf Tournament will begin each day with an 8 a.m. tee time and a shotgun start at Cherokee Village’s Championship North and South courses. Participants in the two-man scramble will play one course the first day, the other on the second. Civil War Exhibit
JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville Museum of Military History will host a traveling exhibit called Civil War 1861-1865 from Aug. 26 through Sept. 1. The exhibit includes a time line of war events in Arkansas, with images and narratives on the places and battles of significance. The exhibit was produced by the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission in cooperation with the Old State House Museum and the Arkansas Humanities Council. Hands on in the Park
MOUNTAIN VIEW — Ozark Folk Center State Park will hold Hands on in the Park to mark Labor Day weekend. Events are slated for Aug. 27 through Sept. 2. Short sessions will allow attendees to experience multiple crafts. The Craft Village will be open Sept. 1 and 2 for the holiday weekend. Admission prices vary depending on the activities, with a craft ticket going for $12 for adults and $7 for children 6-12. Children under 6 will be admitted free.
