KENON SAINE, 38, a fireman for the Little Rock Fire Department, passed away August 20,2013. He was born on July 26, 1975, to Nathaniel and Mabel Z. Saine. ROY LEE “BUTCH” SPENCER, 56, of North Little Rock passedaway Wednesday, August 21, 2013. He was born in Little Rock, Ark., to Doris Dumond Spencer Lewis and the late Roy Lee Spencer Sr. Butch was preceded in death by his father;brother, Rusty Spencer; sister, Gail Spencer Laycook.

Butch was the owner and operator Spencer Radiator Repair Shop. He enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing, gardening and especially his love of horses and his many friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Butch is survived by his mother and stepfather, Albert Lewis; and children, Pam Spencer-Ricks (Craig), Lora Weber (Earnie), David Spencer (Erica) and Linda Cook (Robert); five grandchildren, Britney Spencer, Earnie Weber, Lexie Weber, Jackson Spencer and Evan Spencer; and a host of other family and friends.

XAI LEE THAO, 94, of Hensley, passed away on August 7, 2013.He was born to the late Txhawj Liag Thao and Ci Lauj on February 5, 1919, in Xamneua, Houaphanh province, Laos. Xai was married to Xai Moua in 1960. Xai was an honored member ofthe Lao Hmong Air Commandos from 1945-1975. He was a lieutenant in the Special Guerrilla Warfare Unit in battalion 222. He was on the front-line operation, was wounded in action and was a prisoner of war. Xai was given the Air Commando Association of Faithful and Brave Service Award. He also received the Lao Veteran of America Award for Appreciation of his honor service for the U.S.A. in the Vietnam War. Xai came to the United States in 1980. He is survived by his wife, Xai Moua, and his son, Yongva. He also is survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 24, and Sunday, August 25, from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Forest Hills Funeral Home, 10200 Hwy. 5 N., Alexander, Arkansas. LE THANH TRIEU, age 60, of Little Rock, Ark., passed in peace Friday, August 16, 2013. Trieu is preceded in death by his father, Le Van Thanh. Loved by his companion and dear friend, Phuong. Loving father of son, Thoai. Survived by his mother, Lam Thi Gam; sister, Nhung; brothers, Thai, Thuan and Tuyen; and nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. August 23, 2013, at Christ the King. Msgr. Francis I. Malone and Father Nho of Christ the King will be officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at 12:30 at Calvary Cemetery. Meal and fellowship will be held at 1 p.m. at Christ the King. Trieu was born in Vinh Long, Vietnam, on February 22, 1953. Trieu worked as a manicurist for 25 years. He enjoyed farming, and wood and metal working. Trieu will be lovingly remembered by family and friends.

ARKADELPHIA - Dr. Thomas L. “Tom” Auffenberg, age 65, of Arkadelphia, Ark., died Wednesday, August 21, 2013, in Hot Springs. He was born in Joplin, Mo., on October 10, 1947.

Tom grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, and attended Texas Christian University. He pursued and caught a Ph.D. at Vanderbilt University.

In 1973 Tom joined the history faculty at Ouachita Baptist University, where he established himself as a legend in his own time. His rhetorical skills, intelligence, wit and kindness combined to make of him a history teacher nonpareil. He was known to colleagues and students, both past and present, far and wide, as “The Chinchilla.”

Dr. Auffenberg leaves behind no biological family. In the most profound sense of the word “family,” however, he leaves behind a large and loving family.

A memorial service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held Saturday, 2 p.m., August 24, at the W. Francis McBeth Recital Hall located in the Mabee Fine Arts Center on the Campus of Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia. Please visit www.cremationsofarkansas.com to sign the online guest register.

BRYANT - Ryan Kierulf Palludan, 18, of Bryant, passed awaySunday, August 18, 2013. Ryan was well known for his contagious smile, big heart and ability to make people around him happy. He was a gentle giant.

Ryan loved the FloridaGators Football team. One of the happiest times in his life was when he was able to see his team play in the 2013 Sugar Bowl. He also loved his girlfriend Natalie, fishing, traveling, music and little children. Ryan was a 2013 graduate of Bryant High School and had enrolled at UALR with the goal of a nursing career; which follows in his mothers’ footsteps.

He is survived by his parents, Deborah and Phillip Palludan; brother, Ole Kristoffer Palludan; his two sisters, Neva Elizabeth Westbrook and Katherine Danielle Palludan; girlfriend, Natalie Norwood of Benton; as well as a host of family and friends from around the world. The cause of death was a dissected aorta.

CABOT - Sandra Sheryl Morris, 72, of Cabot departed thislife on Thursday, August 22, 2013. She was born July 16, 1941, in Stratton, Neb., to the late Arthur Baker and Doris Goddard Baker Messman. Sandra was full of fun and always kepteveryone laughing. Her heart was as big as Texas, and she was the first to step forward if a family member or friend was in need of any help. She was a very special mother, grandmother, wife and sister. On December 13, 1957, Sandra married William Clark and together they had four daughters. Sandra later married Dowell Horsman, and they were married 32 years until he passed away December 11, 2002. She married Harold Morris in Kensett, Ark., on October 4, 2008, and was a member of the Kensett Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a husband, Dowell Horsman; one brother, Rick Baker; and a great-grandson, Christian Verkler. She is survived by her husband, Harold Morris of Cabot; four daughters, Sheryl Cooper and her husband William of Greers Ferry, Cynthia Bagwell, Brenda Garcia and her husband Claudio, and Dianna Giger, all of Cabot; nine grandchildren; 18great-grandchildren; three sisters, Doris Goddard of Liberal, Kan., Jaquelyn Nelson of Stillwater, Okla., and Valjean Wheeler and her husband Jerry of Cherokee, Okla.; and two brothers, James Baker and his wife Lois of McPherson, Kan., and Ronald Baker and his wife Patricia of Yardley, Penn.

CONWAY - Mandie Hoelscher, 46, of Conway, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 21, 2013. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, she was a daughter to Frank and Ruth McCue. Mandie obtained her degree in Psychology from UALR and worked at the Student Health Clinic at UCA. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Conway.

HICKORY PLAINS - Lynda Kay Berry Huggs of Hickory Plains, (Crossroads community) was born on September 22, 1947 in Crossroads to Rufus and Marie Berry and died August 21, 2013. She was a member of the Hickory Plains United Methodist Church. Lynda was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Alfred Huggs. Alfred and she were married on July 5, 1967. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Janie Shadwick, Billie Teal and Betty Fisher. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lyndilyn and Russell Clark of Crossroads and one grandson, Ryan Clark of Crossroads.

LONOKE - Frances Juanita Cox Evans, age 80, is now walking the streets of gold after a long courageous battle with cancer. She passed from this life on August 21, 2013. MALVERN - Sandra Adele Kluglose passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2013. She was bornin Little Rock on January 9, 1948. PINE BLUFF - Elveta Dixon Dodds, 78, of Pine Bluff passedaway Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. She was born Sept. 2, 1934 in Glendale, Ark.; the daughter of the late Luther Dixon and Helen Hankins Dixon.Elveta graduated from Glendale High School in 1952. She then went on to graduate from business school in Pine Bluff.

She worked for many years as a secretary and office professional at several Pine Bluff businesses, including Boyce Insurance Agency, First South Savings & Loan, JRMC Medical Records, Lin Nixon Realty, Bridges Law Firm and Nixon Ophthalmology. Mrs. Dodds was a long-time member of Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Dodds, who died in December 2012. The two became high school sweethearts at the age of 15. They married in 1954 and enjoyed 58 years together. Survivors includetwo daughters, Debbie (Steve) Erskine of Lake Jackson, Texas, and Melinda (Mark) Mayo of Little Rock; grandchildren, Laura Nichols, Peter Erskine and Micaela Erskine; stepgrandson, Derek Mayo; great-grandson, Easton Nichols.

Although Elveta had no siblings, she had several brothers and sisters-in-law whom she loved dearly and considered her family.

SAINT VINCENT - Rose MarieSutton, age 81, went to be with her heavenly father on August 20, 2013. Born on February 29, 1932 to the late Steve Hofherr and Mary Zimmerebner of St. Vincent, Ark.; she was a member ofof St. Vincentthe Westside Church of Christ. A consummate mother, grandmother and homemaker, Rose was an excellent cook who loved preparing meals for her family. Her favorite pastime was watching, loving and instilling Godly values in her grandchildren. Her devotion to God and her family was unwavering. She also enjoyed quilting and trips to Branson with family.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bill Sutton; four children: Gary (Rhonda) Sutton of Morrilton, Paula (David) Goff of Vilonia, Donna (Bob) Burgener of St. Vincent, and Bill Jr. (Misty) of Springfield; four sisters: Gertrude Noll, Cecilia Hartman, Martha Hanke and Jodie Baughman; 13 grandchildren: Kathy Mendoza, Jennifer Goff, Jeff Goff, Kayla Sutton, Amber Sutton, Nicholas Burgener, Jesse Burgener, Tyler Burgener, Ryan Sutton, Kyle Burgener, Holly Burgener, Luke Sutton and Chase Sutton; and four great-grandchildren: Ally Mendoza, Carter Goff, Rylee Goffand Parker Mendoza.

WYNNE - Billy Ray Rose, 87, died August 21, 2013. Billy Ray was born April 3, 1926 to the late John Walter and Mollie Futrell Rose in Vanndale, Ark. He was the youngest of six children, Walter (Bud) Rose, Avis Fitzgerald, Ruth Williams, Lucille Caldwell, and Laverne Cox, all of whom preceded Billy Ray in death. Billy Ray is survived by his wife of 57 years, Graple Moye Rose of Wynne; one son, Billy Ray (Skipper) Rose II, Wynne; daughter and son-in-law, Jerri Jo and Milton Tackett of Versailles, Ky. Three grandchildren, Mollie Rose of Wynne, Greg Tackett of Savannah, Ga., and Jay Tackett of Versailles, Ky., also survive.

Billy Ray retired in 1991 to his first love - the outdoors. He could be found fishing, hunting, trapping, or gardening on any given day. He loved his time with nature and supported a variety of wild game organizations. He provided guidance and knowledge to young outdoorsmen on the sanctity of the game and its purpose in the communion of men and nature.

He was employed as a farm equipment salesman for Norsworthy and Wofford, John Deere dealer, for most of his career. Billy Ray’s initial employment was for Borden Milk as a truck driver. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Wynne Masonic Lodge; a 50 year member of the Lodge, receiving lifetime membership recognition. He was a member of Clark’s Chapel Baptist Church.

Before Billy Ray entered the world of work, he served his country in the United States Army fighting in the Philippines during World War II.

The family would like to extend a special thank you the staff of Crestpark Skilled Nursing facility for the love, care, and genuine concern it provided to Billy Ray and his family during the final months of his life.

Graveside service will be held Friday, August 23, 2013 at 10 AM at Cogbill Cemetery with J E Hughes and Wayne Baldwin officiating; Kernodle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation is Thursday, August 22, 2013, 5 to 7 p.m. at Kernodle Funeral Home.

KOKOMO, Ind. - Estle D. Chalk, 100, Kokomo, passedaway at 11:05 a.m., Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Waterford Place. She was born in Higdon, Arkansas on September 11, 1912 to the late George and Lillie (Rodgers) Bradford. In1928 she married Cecil M. Chalk. Cecil passed away in 1966. Estle worked as a nurse’s aide at Howard Community Hospital for many years. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. Her most important things in life were her faith in God and her family. She was a member of Bon Air Church of the Nazarene, Kokomo.

Surviving are her; children; Carlene Wallen, Kokomo, Harold Melvin Chalk, Kokomo, Charles J. Chalk, Atlanta, Georgia, Roger D. Chalk, Ada, Michigan, Lorene M. Tester Leslie, Ark., sister: Helen Irene Nelson, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Estle was preceded in death by: her husband Cecil, her parents, children; Dolton F. Chalk, Dorthy J. Cotton, Howard R. Chalk, Phyllis I. Chalk, sisters; Etherl Cullen, Sybil Kirkindall, brothers; Marvin Bradford, James Bradford, Chester Bradford, Roy Bradford, Ray Bradford, and Edward Bradford.

Funeral service will be held at Bon Air Church of the Nazarene, 2419 North Locke Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46901 on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 12 noon with Pastor Dennis Riggs officiating. Burial will follow at Kokomo Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m.-12 noon Monday at the church.
