A Pope County inmate escaped Saturday morning prior to headcount, the county sheriff's office said Saturday in a statement.

Nicholas Scott Allen, 29, of Dover is described as standing 5-foot-9 and weighing 180 pounds, county officials said. Allen has a shaved head and has a flag tattooed on his right shoulder. He was last seen wearing jail clothing consisting of an orange shirt and pants, officials said.

Police believe Allen is traveling in a green 1997 Ford Taurus with the license plate of 935 RZW.

No information has been released yet about how Allen escaped from the sheriff's office.

Allen was serving time in Pope County jail for three misdemeanor charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct and obstructing governmental operations, according to the news release. He also was serving a 30-day sentence for two other misdemeanor charges of failure to appear and failure to pay.

Police say Allen is not armed, but urge anyone who sees Allen to not approach him.

Anyone with information about Allen's whereabouts are asked to contact the Pope County 911 dispatch center at (479) 968-0911 or the sheriff's office at (479) 968-2558.
