Plane makes emergency landing at LR airport, 141 onboard

An American Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing after a problem occurred with the plane's left engine at the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock on Sunday, officials said.

Flight 1111 — which was headed to Dallas, TX from Charlotte, N.C. — had 136 passengers and five crew members on board, American Airlines spokesman Stacey Frantz said. The emergency landing happened at about 12:25 p.m. and the plane was an MD-80 aircraft, she said.

No injuries were reported and American Airlines put all passengers onto another flight for Dallas, Bill and Hillary National Airport spokesman Shane Carter said.

Carter said he was told that the Flight 1111 aircraft experienced "failure in one of the engines."

Frantz said the airline company does not know what went wrong with the plane's engine and added, "We'll have to investigate to see what's going on with the engine."
