A driver was killed and passenger injured Sunday in Union County when a vehicle ran into a ditch and then hit a tree.
Dillion K. Kemp, 28, of Farmington, was driving a 2007 Toyota south on Arkansas 160 about a half-mile north of Mount Holly when the vehicle veered off the highway shortly before 8 a.m., Arkansas State Police said in a report.
The Toyota reportedly went into the northbound ditch before striking a tree along the wood line.
Kemp died at the scene. A passenger, identified as Tylor E. Hodges, 23, of Louann, was taken to Medical Center of South Arkansas in El Dorado. His condition wasn't released.
It wasn't clear what caused the wreck. Conditions were described as clear and dry.
The fatality was the 316th death in a traffic accident on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures. It was also the first of two fatal wrecks in the state Sunday.
