Benton police say they have arrested a 24-year-old man on accusations he stole power tools from a home while its resident was away at church.
An officer patrolling just before noon Sunday around South First Street when he spotted a “suspicious” man leaning over power tools nearby, according to a statement from Benton Police Department spokesman Lt. Kevin Russell.
Someone reported to the officer having seen the man leaving a neighbor's backyard, police said.
The officer then spoke with the suspect, James Gideon, about the tools, police said. Russell's statement said police gleaned that the tools had been stolen from a home on South First Street while its elderly resident was at church.
Gideon was arrested on breaking or entering and theft of property charges and taken to the Saline County jail, police said.
