A 57-year-old Pine Bluff woman was killed Sunday after the vehicle she was driving hit an embankment and went airborne in Pine Bluff.
It happened shortly before 8 a.m. as Betty McEntire drove a 2002 Toyota east on the Martha Mitchell Expressway at University Drive, Arkansas State Police said in a preliminary report.
Investigators say the Toyota left the roadway, hit an embankment, went airborne and then landed in trees off the highway.
McEntire died from unspecified injuries.
It wasn't clear what caused the vehicle to veer off the road. Conditions were described as clear and dry at the time.
The death was the 317th fatality in a traffic accident on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
