A Louisiana man died Monday when the truck he was driving ran off the road and hit a tree, ejecting him, authorities said.
Herbert C. Loyd, 48, of Downsville, La., was driving a 2006 International truck east on U.S. 82 east of Strong in Union County when the vehicle crossed the centerline about 12:45 p.m., Arkansas State Police said in a report.
Investigators say the truck then went into the ditch on the westbound side, traveled about 340 feet and hit a tree, ejecting Loyd on impact. He died at the scene.
Conditions at the time were described as clear and dry.
The death was the 320th traffic fatality on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
