MUSIC— John Hiatt & the Combo at Juanita’s. So what does that mean? A night of masterly singer-songwriter music. This Americana artist is one of the best. He wrote “Have a Little Faith in Me,” “Perfectly Good Guitar” and other gems. Nashville, Tenn., pop-country-meets-rock duo Native Run opens the show at 9 p.m. with the doors opening at 8 p.m. Tickets are $40 in advance and $45 day of show. Hiatt’s new album is Mystic Pinball. SCIENCE — School’s in, and while the Museum of Discovery’s Science After Dark was held throughout the summer, now’s the time for re-emphasizing this night of adult fun, just in time for Science After Dark’s Back to School: It’s More Fun Than You Remember event. How much science do you remember from school? Get a refresher. The 21-and-up event with cash bar is 6-8 p.m. Admission is free for museum members and $5 for non-members. (wednesday)

ART — Edgar Peters Bowron is the Audrey Jones Beck Curator of European art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Bowron, who has taught at Harvard, visits the Arkansas Arts Center, delivering a 6-7 p.m. lecture titled The Artist’s Best Friend: The Dog in Art from the Renaissance to Today. The lecture is free for AAC members; admission is $10 for non-members. The center’s Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Gainsborough exhibit remains open until 9 p.m. following the lecture. (thursday)

COMEDY — Stand-up comedian Pierre Edwards has appeared in movies such as How to Be a Player, and Edwards hits Little Rock for a comedy show at downtown’s Montego Cafe titled Talking Dirty After Dark. The night of laughs also includes Keef Glason, Marcus Combs and Playa Mook. The doors open at 7:30 p.m. with the stand-up starting at 8 p.m. General admission tickets are $17.50 in advance and $20 day of show. VIP tickets are $25. (friday)

MUSIC — Party in the Park, held in North Little Rock’s North Shore Park, is a day and evening of country music all for a good cause: The One, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to meeting the needs of the nation’s homeless. The day of music features Matt Stell, Dry County, Brian Kelley, Just Sayin’ and more. The gates open at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 day of show. Beyond the music, there’s food, beverages and fun for the entire family. (saturday)

MUSIC — Magic Springs Water and Theme Park’s 2013 Concert Series comes to a close with an appearance by country musician Chris Cagle at Timberwood Amphitheater. Opening is 2013 American Idol contestant Rachel Hale at 6:30 p.m. and country band Riverbilly at 7:15 p.m. Cagle, the singer of “Got My Country On” and other country hits, takes the stage at 8 p.m. Admission for free lawn seating is included with a season pass or a general admission ticket day of show. (saturday)

TICKETS — Remember that Iris DeMent concert at South on Main last weekend? Oh, didn’t attend because it was sold out? Us, too. Don’t miss Rosanne Cash at Oxford American magazine’s cultural experience space South on Main when she visits Nov. 23. Tickets, which are $50, go on sale via metrotix.com at noon Sunday. The Grammy-winning country and folk singer-songwriter will be joined by singer-songwriter and husband John Leventhal, a fellow Grammy winner. (sunday)
