Baxter County couple faces child abuse charges

A Gamaliel woman and a Mountain Home man were arrested Thursday and charged with felony battery related to the abuse of a child, the Baxter County sheriff said in a statement.

Andrea Victoria Krupp, 33, and Richard Garrett House, 35, were released from Baxter County jail after they each posted a $5,000 bond, Sheriff John Montgomery said.

Police believe Krupp and House used a wooden board that was about 1 1/8 inch thick as a paddle to discipline Krupp's 6-year-old boy, Montgomery said. Police also believe the child was slapped across the face as well, he said.

On Aug. 16, a babysitter had found bruising on the child's face, arms, chest, buttocks and legs, Montgomery said. An investigation began into the child abuse complaint, and the child was put into protective custody, according to the statement.

Krupp and House are scheduled to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court on Sept. 5.
