LITTLE ROCK — The Democratic Party of Arkansas has set $3,150 as the filing fee to seek the party's nomination for a state Senate seat vacated by a lawmaker who resigned over improper campaign spending.
The party announced Friday that it had set a prorated filing fee for the state Senate District 21 seat that was vacated by former Democratic Sen. Paul Bookout. Bookout resigned last week, days after the Ethics Commission said he spent thousands from his campaign on clothing, home theater equipment and other personal items.
The state party's filing fee is normally $4,500.
Gov. Mike Beebe has set Oct. 8 as the date of the Republican and Democratic primaries for the seat and Jan. 14 as the special election. If necessary, a primary runoff election would be held Nov. 12.
