MARY BROWN GATTINGER HENDERSON, 87, of North Little Rock, died Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Robinson Nursing Center. She was born in Des Arc on December 26, 1925, the daughter of Bryon George and Mary Adelaide Brown Gattinger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William E. Henderson her daughter, Mary Ann Richter and her sonin-law, Edmund Forest. She was raised in Des Arc by her mother and her mother’s second husband Russell Murray. She received a Degree of Associate in Science from Arkansas Polytechnic College in Russellville, a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, and Master of Teaching from Southeastern State College in Oklahoma. She taught for 23 1/2 years, including many years in the Orthopedic Wing at Henderson Junior High School in Little Rock.

She is survived by her children, Eileen O’Sullivan (Patrick) of North Little Rock, Barbara Forest of Sherwood and Rebecca Henderson of Maumelle; her three grandchildren, Travis Forest of Dallas, Kelly O’Sullivan of Chicago and Kevin O’Sullivan of North Little Rock; and her sister, Anne Murray Hille of North Carolina.

JEAN HOLT, 87, beloved wife, mother, Nana, and friend wentto be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 28, 2013. She was born on October 2, 1925 to the late Walter and Carrie (Ringo) Linder in Dumas, Ark.

Jean is preceded in deathby her husband of 49 years, Glenwood Lee Holt and a son, Terry Emerson Holt. She is survived by her loving children, Diane Holt of Conway, Glenda Milks of Yellville, Jeff (Krystal) Holt of North Little Rock, Becky (Randy) Rogers of North Little Rock, Mike (Jodie) Holt of Sherwood, and Mitch (Rebecca) Holt of North Little Rock. Adoringly called Nana, she is also survived by her grandchildren, Ashley (Harold) Davis, John David (Terri) Milks, Lindsay (Jacob) Harvey, Kevin Rogers, Kylie Holt, Kamryn Holt, Adam Sperry, Jonathan Sperry, and Ashli Holt; her great-grandchildren, Presley Harvey, Lilly Harvey, Clint Davis, Stephanie Davis, Jackson Milks, and Gage Milks; brothers-inlaw, sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Jean loved her family and loved spending time with them. She was always there for them with advice, words of wisdom, a shoulder to cry on, a smile, a laugh, and encouraging words. She prayed for her family and friends daily. Jean was always willing to help someone in need.

DOROTHY SKILLERN HOWARD, 84, of North Little Rock, wentto be with the Lord Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013. Dorothy was born to J.S. “Bud” and Ornelle Skillern of the Sixteenth Section Community in Lonoke County on Nov. 22, 1928. Shewas a member of Sylvan Hills Community Church.

Dorothy married “her Coy” Howard July 31, 1949, and they truly lived happily ever after until his death in March of 2012. Dorothy worked many jobs, starting out as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone, working at the newly opened Mt. McKinley Lodge, Alaska, and retiring as Coy’s assistant in his home appraisal business.

Dorothy had many friends: all ages, from coast to coast, neighbors, church family and childhood. They were all dear to her. She was a lady of elegance and grace inside and out. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Howard; sister, Madine Jackson; brother, Bruce Skillern and dear friend Madine White. She is survived by her nephews, Ray Jackson and wife Daisy of Pangburn, Gary Jackson and wife Lavella of Oklahoma, Jim Jackson and wife Jill of Jacksonville; and niece Glenda Malone and husband Ray of North Little Rock; many great-nieces, nephews and her dear friends, Doug and Anita House and Bobby Burden.

BRYANT - Mary Sue House, 88, of Bryant, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Saline Memorial Hospital/Hospice.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. H.C. Thornton and her husband, Hugh “Jr.” House. She is survived by son, Ron House (Robin); daughters, Janet Roberson (Harold) and Brenda Fisk; two sisters; six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

She attended The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was a faithful witness to Jehovah God for 58 years.

CABOT - O. Edward Chandler, 84, of Cabot went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, August 27, 2013. He was born September 9, 1928 in Rector, Ark. He married in 1945 to Maxine Mathers and soon after moved to Ann Arbor Michigan where they made theirhome and had four wonderful sons. While there he worked for the University of Michigan and Oran Troop, Inc. as a contracted U.S. postal carrier. Although he enjoyed living in Michigan, he moved his family back to Arkansas in the 70’s. He worked as a factory worker, business owner, law enforcement officer, and served as the Mayor and Fire Chief in Pollard, Ark. Ed and Maxine moved to Cabot in the 1990’s and enjoyed working many years for Cabot Star Herald and Ron Campbell Ford. Ed never stopped working after his retirement mowing lawns and other odd jobs even up until he was hospitalized. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1961 in Ann Arbor, Mich. He was of the southern Baptist faith and member of Briarwood Baptist Church in Cabot, Ark. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Beebe Masonic Lodge 145 in Beebe, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel L Chandler of Rector; mother, Ira J Dale-Chandler of Rector; sister, Jean Chandler McClain of Karnack, Ill; granddaughter, Mary Rebecca Chandler of Cabot and two great-grandsons, Orin Lee Frazee and John Franklin Frazee of Pollard. He leaves to cherish his memory, wife Maxine Chandler; four sons, Sam Chandler of Cabot; Tom Chandler of Cabot; Jimmy Rae Chandler of Pollard; and Timothy Chandler of Cabot; nine grandchildren, Joey Chandler, Carla Spears, David Chandler, and Chris Chandler of Cabot; Melinda Dees, Jerry Ermert, and Robert Chandler of Pollard, Kelley Barker of Houston, Texas and Jeff Chandler of Pflugerville, Texas; 23 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and other family and friends.

CARLISLE - John Leslie Palsa, 33, of Carlisle died Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at UAMS. John was born on October 4, 1979, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. John was a graduate of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro with two degrees and a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and loved to travel.

John is survived by his parents, Tim and Sue Palsa of Carlisle; one sister, Melanie Brown and husband, Chuck, of Carlisle; three nieces, Madeline, Olivia, and Nina Catherine, all of Carlisle, and a host of family and friends.

CONWAY - Marce Antoni Jarrow, age 53, of Conway, Ark., passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Conway Regional Hospital. He was born on September 14, 1959, in Dermott, Ark., to the late Wilbert Stanley Jarrow and Chars Etta Jarrow.

He attended St. Joseph Seminary College and graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor’s in Theology. He was a current resident of Conway, Ark., for seven years. He was employed by Delta Regional Detention Center as a Counselor for many years. Marce was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed family, reading, sports and listening to music. He devoted much of his time and energy as a caregiver to his father and mother until they passed. Marce gave us all courage, hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life. Marce was a very kind and gentle soul; he had a loving, generous and humble heart, and was always giving to others.

He is survived by his sisters, Maria Jarrow, Martha Jarrow, Detrich Smith; beloved family pet Princess; and brother-inlaw, Phillip Doby. He is preceded in death by, his father, Wilbert Stanley Jarrow, mother, Chars Etta Jarrow, and sister, Mary Etta Jarrow-Doby. Marce will also be remembered by his numerous aunts, uncles, extended familyand friends.

HAMPTON - Winnie Bradford Harrell, 91, of Hampton diedWednesday, August 28, 2013, at Arkansas Hospice in Little Rock. She was born September 10, 1921, in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. She was a retired secretary for InternationalPaper Company and a member of Hampton United Methodist Church, where she volunteered as a secretary for over twenty years. During World War II she worked in the war department in Washington, D.C. Winnie was very active in her community serving wherever she could. She was a charter member of the Hampton Garden Club, served on the Calhoun County Fair Board for many years, and volunteered with the local jail ministry. She bowled for several years with the Camden Bowling league, often attending state tournaments. She enjoyed traveling all over the United States as well as Canada, Mexico, South America and the Caribbean. She also enjoyed playing pinochle and pitch. While living at Parkway Heights she enjoyed bingo, dominoes, Bible trivia, and her pedicures. Winnie was also an avid supporter of the River City Men’s Chorus. The family would like to give a special thank you to her Little Rock family, Parkway Heights and to Arkansas Hospice for their great care and compassion.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William Elijah Bradford and Sarah Ellon Allison Bradford; husband, Len Harrell; one brother, Ordis Bradford; one sister, Dorothy Ward. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Belinda Harrell of Little Rock, Carl and Linda Harrell of Little Rock; two grandchildren, Mike Harrell, Ryan Harrell and wife, Sarah, of Little Rock; great-grandson, Aidan Harrell of Little Rock; and several nieces and nephews.

LEOLA - Donna Marie Riggan, age 74, of Leola went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013. Donna was preceded indeath by her parents, Lee and Elizabeth Winkler; husband, Norman Dale Riggan Sr.; brothers, Lee and Tommy Winkler, and grandson, Capt. Anthony Riggan USAF and his wife, Nicole.

Donna was born Aug. 1, 1939, in Little Rock and attended Central High School. She was an active member in the Women’s Missionary Union and well known for her generosity and charitable work in the community. She was a member of Second Baptist Church of Malvern. Donna was a loving mother and homemaker.

She is survived by her sons, Norman Dale Riggan Jr. of Pine Bluff, Scott Riggan and wife Kellie of Greenbrier and Tony Riggan and wife Mary Jane of Little Rock; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

MONTICELLO - John Thomas “J.T.” Shaw, age 85 of Monticello passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at the University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born Nov. 18, 1927, in Vandervoort, Ark. to Andy O. Sr. and Morgan Price Shaw. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 58 years, Wilmott Hancock Shaw; and his brothers Vaughn, Paul, Andy and Dwight Shaw.

J.T. was a retired car dealer and a long time member of the Church of Christ. After retiring, he and his wife enjoyed many years of travel to visit family and friends and fishing in the area lakes.

He is survived by his daughters: Judy Mason and husband, Mark of Auburn, Wash.; and Johnna Courtney and husband, Michael of Hot Springs. He is also survived by his granddaughters Kirsten Courtney of Fayetteville, and Ellen and Bailey Courtney of Hot Springs; and a brother, Clyde Shaw of Monticello.

REDFIELD - David Franklin, 57, of Redfield, died Thursday, August 29, 2013. Born October 27, 1955, in Morehouse Parish, Louisiana, he was a son of the late J.D. Franklin and Alice Reed Franklin. David had worked maintenance for the Historic Arkansas Museum prior to his lengthy battle with cancer. He loved his job and was proud to be there. Family and friends always came first with him, David will be remembered as a loving husband and father. Whether earning a living or in passing the time, David enjoyed working with his hands. A true craftsman, he enjoyed woodwork and knife making.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Justin Franklin. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 30 years, Lesa Copeland Franklin, to whom he was married, December 29, 1983; sons, Joshua and James Franklin; brothers, Ronny Stringfellow, Boyd Allen, and Danny Allen; sisters, Sherry McElyea and LaJuan Painter; and many other loving family and friends.

ROGERS - Gladys Ethel (Reed) Jackson Hillery, age 88,of Rogers, Arkansas, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 in Springdale, Arkansas surrounded by her loving family. Gladys was born in Pyron,Texas to James A. and Ethel (Gilmore) Reed on November 15, 1924. She was athletic all her life and enjoyed basketball, softball, bowling, hunting and fishing. During her teenage years her family moved to Delight, Arkansas where she met the love of her life Millard Thomas (M.T.) Jackson. They were married on December 21, 1942 in Albany, Oregon. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Gladys was a past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles (F.O.E.) #3098 in Houston, Texas. She was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church of Fayetteville, Arkansas. She lived a full and beautiful life sharing joy with everyone she met. Her most cherished pastime was time spent with family.

Gladys is preceded in death by her first husband, M.T. Jackson, second husband, Mack Hillery, and siblings, S. Addean Winfrey, Luther M. Reed, James E. Reed, and S. Harlan Reed. Gladys is survived by two sons and a daughter, M. Stephen Jackson and his wife Pat, Keith L. Jackson and his wife Shelley, D. Renee (Jackson) Carr and her husband Steve; nine grandchildren, (Angela Warren, Jennifer Bartee, Kelly Sams, Stefanie Johnston, Kristy Price, Lacey Hinds, Sarah Huhn, Brandon Baldwin and Jill Brown), 15 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a faithful canine companion Wrigley Carr.
