State highway official says roads slick from refrozen ice

Road conditions for many state highways are slick from ice on Sunday morning, according to the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department's weather map.

A culmination of light rain that occurred Saturday night and ice that melted throughout that day produced a refreezing of ice on roads, the department's spokesman Danny Straessle said.

"There are several trouble spots on Interstate 30, especially in the Benton area, [and in] east Arkansas," Straessle said. "Roads are continuing to be slick. We've been out all night addressing that, and we'll continue to work throughout the day."

Traffic is currently at a standstill on Interstate 40 eastbound between Carlisle and Hazen, according to the department's live traffic map.

A state police dispatcher said that authorities are still clearing up debris from an accident that occurred about 8:56 a.m. No injuries were reported in the wreck.

Other areas in central Arkansas had slow-moving traffic Sunday morning, including the Interstate 430 bridge in both directions near Cantrell Road and the Interstate 430/630 interchange near Shackleford Road, the map showed.
