Ball State (10-2) gets shot at ASU

Arkansas State finally found out Sunday who it will be playing in the GoDaddy Bowl, almost a week after it accepted a bid to play in the game for the third consecutive season.

Ball State, the second-place finisher in the Mid-American Conference West Division, will play ASU in the Jan. 5 game at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala.

The Cardinals (10-2) will be making their second consecutive bowl appearance after losing to Central Florida 38-17 in the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl last year.

ASU (7-5) is making its third consecutive appearance in the GoDaddy Bowl, and thanks to some late-season help from Louisiana-Monroe and South Alabama, will do so holding a share of the Sun Belt Conference title like the last two seasons.

ASU and Louisiana-Lafayette finish in a tie atop the Sun Belt standings after Louisiana-Lafayette lost its regular-season finale 30-8 on Saturday night. ASU went into its last two Go-Daddy appearances after winning outright titles, losing to Northern Illinois 38-20 in 2012 and beatingKent State 17-13 last year.

Ball State won 10 games for the third time since it started playing football. The Cardinals, led by senior quarterback Keith Wenning, rank ninth in passing at 333.3 yards per game, and 13th in scoring at 40.1 points per game.

Wenning has started 46 career games and holds Ball State records for touchdown passes, passing yards, completions and attempts and ranks fifth nationally with 3,933 passing yards this season.

ASU is scheduled to start bowl practices Thursday.
