Wreck on I-40 snarls traffic near Forrest City

Multiple agencies are responding to an accident that occurred early Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 40 in east Arkansas.

Spokesmen with the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department and the Arkansas State Police said the wreck happened at 12:37 p.m. around mile-marker 245 near Forrest City.

The five-vehicle accident backed up traffic in both directions up to 15 miles, according to authorities. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

As of 2:40 p.m., highway department spokesman Jeff Whatley estimated it would take crews an additional 90 minutes to clear the scene.
