Trial starts for man charged in girl's scissor-stabbing death

CLARKSVILLE — Testimony continues Wednesday in the first-degree murder trial for a man accused of stabbing a 6-year-old girl to death with a pair of scissors.

Kou Her is charged in the May 10 attack on Autumn Vang. The girl died six days later at Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Johnson County Prosecuting Attorney David Gibbons told jurors Tuesday that Her attacked the child as he was trying to kidnap another person in the western Arkansas home. Authorities have said Her was a distant relative of Autumn.

Her's defense attorney, John Burnett, urged jurors to make prosecutors prove every element of the charges against the defendant. According to the Southwest Times Record, Burnett did not deny the allegations against his client in opening statements Tuesday.
