A state audit says Lt. Gov. Mark Darr received more than $12,000 in improper expenses.

Darr said in the document released Thursday that he intends to make full restitution to the state.

The audit report, which was presented to a legislative committee on Thursday, says the first-term Republican should pay back $9,836 for excess travel reimbursements and $2,339 for improper use of his state credit card.

The document says Darr reimbursed $1,202 to the state to cover part of the credit card spending, with $1,137 due.

A spokeswoman for Darr said the lieutenant governor wouldn't comment beyond his response in the audit.

Darr was running for the GOP nomination for the 4th District congressional seat being vacated by Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Cotton but he dropped out in September.

Seems maybe he should consider what would happen to us average folks if we did something like that, and just resign. Us regular people would loose whatever job we had if we did that. Why didn't he pay back the whole credit card amount? See, it's really not a sin to steal if you happen to be a politician. OOPS, he didn't really steal, he just borrowed the money from us taxpayers. Any idea what type of interest he's going to pay us for the use of our money?

I love it when the GOP talks about being the party of fiscal responsibility.

I mean, you can't make that $#!t up.

Same standard as Sen Bookout who did the very same thing-make him resign then prosecute.

If the travel expenses to and from Springdale are not allowed, why were they reimbursed by the State? It does not appear that Darr was aware of the rule for constitutional officers.

It is time to review the reimbursed expenses for all the constitutional officers as well as all the state representatives and senators. That would include every reimbursement to every legislator and constitutional officer.

This is not the same standard violated by Bookout. He took campaign funds and used for personal expenses. Was this the standard practice in the old days when the Democrats controlled every office held in Arkansas?
