Third-, fourth- and fifth-graders treated Little Rock city employees to several classic Christmas tunes Thursday afternoon at City Hall.
In the building's rotunda room, about 33 students wearing Santa Claus hats entertained workers with eight holiday carols, including Jingle Bell Rock, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and Feliz Navidad.
"Our children at Franklin are privileged to have many volunteers come to our school, and this is our way of saying thank you," said the school's music specialist Kimberly Collins, who has worked at the school for 10 years. "We are thankful to be invited."
During Santa Claus is Comin' to Town, four to five students approached workers and danced with them, while their peers sang the well-known holiday song. At the end of their performance, students beckoned the audience to join them by singing along with We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
Collins said the elementary students had practiced twice a week for several weeks in preparation for their performance.
The holiday caroling was a part of Little Rock's "Love Your School" initiative that was established in 2010. The program promotes healthy eating and physical activity to help reduce childhood obesity in the city.
