Historic Arkansas to open Bowie knife exhibition

LITTLE ROCK — The Historic Arkansas Museum in Little Rock is preparing to open an exhibition centered on the Bowie knife.

The display is to feature more than 200 historic blades and is to open Friday with a reception.

Organizers say the original Bowie knife was designed by the frontiersman and was made in 1830 by blacksmith James Black at Washington, Ark.

The collection on display includes knives owned by Davy Crockett, who died with Bowie at the Alamo, as well as President Theodore Roosevelt, General Winfield Scott.
