Sentence in Fort Smith man's death affirmed

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas' highest court has affirmed the life sentence given to an Oklahoman convicted of killing a Kibler man whose body was found in a Fort Smith alley.

Brandon Fritts of Sallisaw, Okla., was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced as a habitual offender. Fritts wanted the state Supreme Court to suppress a statement made after invoking his right to remain silent.

Police questioned Fritts because he was one of the last people known to have been with the victim, Jamie Czeck. During the investigation, Fritts' girlfriend told police that Fritts had hidden a gun at his father's house.

Police said Fritts admitted shooting Czeck in the face, chest and head and that, after being read his rights, confessed again to the crime.
