Shelby County to hold medication delivery exercise

MEMPHIS — Shelby County is holding an exercise Thursday on door-to-door delivery of medications during an emergency.

Public health workers and volunteers will distribute empty medication bottles to nearly 2,800 homes in Collierville and Germantown to see if such deliveries would be an effective tool to treat or prevent reactions to bioterrorist attacks like anthrax.

Dr. Helen Morrow, the health officer for the Shelby County Health Department, said the exercise isn't in response to any specific threat of an attack. But, she said, exercise and preparation are needed to best be able to respond if one does occur.
