Dallas man charged in Hope ATM theft

A Dallas man has been charged after two men broke into a Hope pharmacy last year, stole an automated teller machine and crashed the getaway vehicle, authorities said Friday.

Elroy Taylor, 31, was arrested Thursday night on commercial burglary and theft of property charges, Hope Police Department Assistant Chief Kimberly Tomlin said in a statement.

Taylor and another man went the morning of Dec. 8, 2012, to the Walgreens store at Bill Clinton Drive and North Hervey Street, took the ATM machine and loaded it into a van, police said. The van was found wrecked and abandoned on Interstate 30 a short time later, but the men had fled on foot and weren't found, Tomlin said.

Taylor is at the Hempstead County jail and awaiting a first court appearance.
