2 Pulaski County road bids worth nearly $3 million approved

Highway officials have approved two bids for road improvements in Pulaski County, the state Highway and Transportation Department said Monday.

Don Stephens Trucking & Construction Co. of Little Rock was awarded a $709,603 contract to convert the intersection of West Main Street/Jacksonville Cutoff Road and Harris Road into a traffic circle in Jacksonville. The project, set to begin in two to four weeks, should be finished by summer, the Highway Department said.

The department also approved Redstone Construction Group Inc. of Little Rock's $2,248,581 bid to widen a half-mile stretch of Scott Hamilton Drive in southwest Little Rock from Interstate 30 to Base Line Road. The project will expand the road from two lanes to four lines with curbs, gutters and sidewalks, the department said.

Work on that project is expected to start in two to four weeks and conclude by summer 2015, highway officials said.
