Texas woman killed after trailer hits pickup

A Texas woman died Sunday after her pickup was hit by a trailer Sunday on Interstate 40, police said.

It happened about 11:30 a.m. at the 207-mile marker in Monroe County.

Arkansas State Police say a westbound 2004 Dodge Ram was hauling a trailer that "bounced across the median and into the eastbound lanes." It wasn't clear what caused it to cross the median.

The tire of the trailer then hit the front driver's-side cab of an eastbound 2011 Dodge Ram driven by Pattie Collier, 35, of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, police said. Collier died at the scene.

The driver of the Ram that was hauling the trailer, 45-year-old Barry Rees, 45, of Austin, Ark., wasn't hurt, according to a state police report.

The death was the 454th fatality in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
