Gus Malzahn was named the winner of the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year award Monday.

Malzahn is 12-1 in his first season as the head coach at Auburn. The Tigers, who won the Southeastern Conference championship, will play Florida State in the BCS National Championship Game on Jan. 6.

The Eddie Robinson award is one of two national coach of the year honors this year for Malzahn, who was also named Hope Depot Coach of the Year. Malzahn was also named the SEC coach of the year and is a candidate for other national awards.

Malzahn, a Fort Smith native, spent 14 seasons coaching high school football in Arkansas at Hughes, Shiloh Christian and Springdale. He won three state championships overall and finished state runner-up three times.

Malzahn spent the 2006 season as offensive coordinator at Arkansas and got his head coaching start at Arkansas State in 2012.

Not surprised at all that Gus won these awards and I fully expect Auburn to beat FSU. And yes, we had him and let him get away. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Letting Malzahn get away ranks right up there with Japan bombing Pearl Harbor to teach the U S a lesson.
