Four Hogs seeking transfer

Arkansas running back Nate Holmes (22) carries the ball through the Southern Mississippi defense Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, during the fourth quarter of play at Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville.

— Four football players are seeking to transfer, Arkansas coach Bret Bielema said in a sitdown interview with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on Tuesday.

Linebackers A.J. Turner and Myke Tavarres and running back Nate Holmes are seeking transfer options, Bielema said. The first-year coach said earlier this year cornerback Ray Buchanan Jr. was also looking to transfer.

Turner, Holmes and Buchanan were members of the Razorbacks' 2012 signing class, while Tavarres signed prior to 2013.

Turner missed the 2013 season with a wrist injury. The Lepanto native was named to the Southeastern Conference's All-Freshman team in 2012 after recording 53 tackles, including 12 in the season finale against LSU.

Holmes played in four games as a sophomore, rushing six times for 17 yards. The Port Arthur, Texas native had accounted for 118 all-purpose yards as a freshman, working mostly as a kickoff and punt returner.

Buchanan and Tavarres were used primarily in scout team and special teams roles.

Read tomorrow's Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for more from Bielema's interview.

Matt Jones and Tom Murphy contributed to this report.

I'm sure there is room at Ark State, UCA, UAPB or other state schools. Please don't be traitors to the state!

I say let them go. The wouldn't give 100% anyway. We need players we can depend on to work hard and stay out of trouble. Good bye.

Dontcallmenames, really? Traitors to the state? But I guess you are OK with guys who come here from other states, right?

Hit the bricks. If they don't want to be here, let them go.

Look, he told them to go. The players have to commit to the schools, but the schools no longer have to commit to the players. Can't put that burden on bigtime college football progrms, now can we? There'll likely be plenty more to come.

hotspringslawyer is CORRECT for $100, the conversation went like this from Bielema, "You boys just are not fitting into our progam and will not see much playing time in the coming year, would you like for us to find you a school to transfer to?"

After going 3-9, too bad Bret Bielema isn't seeking a transfer....... And don't start with the "not his fault because the talent sucked" crap. We got beat by Rutgers because of poor coaching. We got beat by Mississippi State because of poor coaching. We snatched defeat from the jaws of victory against LSU because of poor coaching. If Gus Malzhan had coached these same kids the Hogs win at least 6 and maybe 8 games.
