Longtime prosecutor Raff won't run again

SEARCY — The longest-serving prosecutor in Arkansas history says he won't seek re-election next year.

Chris Raff has served nearly 32 years as prosecuting attorney for the 17th Judicial District, which covers White and Prairie counties. The 62-year-old prosecutor told The Daily Citizen that the timing is right to end his tenure in office.

Raff said his term will end Dec. 31, 2014. He said he has no plans to seek another political position.

Raff was first elected prosecuting attorney in 1982. Since then, he's been elected to the post 12 more times. He's also served as president of the Arkansas Prosecuting Attorneys Association and is a longtime member of the board of directors of the National District Attorneys Association.
