Christmas is a time for chocolate flood

Say the words “Christmas candy.” Don’t the words just pleasantly roll off the tongue?

In Spanish it’s “caramelo de la Navidad.” In French it’s “bonbons de Noel.”

But regardless of where you’re from, if you celebrate it, candy likely has a role in your Christmas. To so many of us, a bulging stocking or tin full of treats is part of the whole wonderful experience.

The Hershey Co. has an assortment of holiday-themed candy:

Hershey’s Collection Pretzels and Almond Clusters in 5-ounce boxes. The almond clusters, which are made with a hint of sea salt, are amazingly irresistible.

Hershey’s Kisses Milk Chocolates Gift Canister and Candy Cane Mint candies

Twizzlers tree-shaped cherry candy

Bubble Yum Cane

Hershey’s Candy Cane Bar made with white chocolate and peppermint candy bits

Prices vary.

Lindt Master Chocolatiers is also on the ball this season with a variety of ideas for hostess gifts, stocking stuffers or holiday gatherings. The Lindt products in local stores include:

The Holiday Lindor Assorted Flavor Sampler box featuring truffles in Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, White Chocolate, Stracciatella, 60 percent dark and Caramel. A 7.6-ounce box costs about $7.

The Lindt Bear ($4) is back. The 3.5-ounce treat is made of milk chocolate and wrapped in gold foil with a red fabric ribbon. There are also foil-wrapped Santas, reindeer and a snowman.

5.1-ounce Milk Chocolate Lindor Truffles bag for about $6. I’ve also seen bags of assorted flavors, caramel and white chocolate.

Arby’s is selling its Horsey and Arby’s sauce by the bottle for a limited time at participating locations for $2.49 for an 11.5-ounce bottle, or $4.79 for a package of two, one of each flavor.

Duncan Hines Holiday Velvets cake mixes are a colorful way to celebrate Christmas through baking. Instead of just the usual red version, this box includes mixes for red and green layers. It would be great for festive-looking cupcakes, Bundt or layered cakes, but you are really only limited by your imagination. Look for them in your store’s baking aisle, where one boxed mix costs about $2.
