Delta Regional Authority invests in eastern Arkansas

The Delta Regional Authority plans to invest in a sustainable agriculture food system in the Arkansas Delta.

Delta Regional Authority Federal Co-Chairman Chris Masingill said Wednesday the $150,000 investment will help Arkansas Delta Seeds of Change implement their plan to support small business enterprise development, create a farm-to-school food processing facility and provide job training and technical assistance for entrepreneurs.

The Seeds of Change program will help increase output and success for 100 participating farmers, along with many other businesses along the agricultural value chain throughout the Arkansas Delta. Funding for the project will also provide leverage for additional funding from other investors.

Farmers who will participate in the program come from some of the poorest counties in eastern Arkansas that also have some of the nation's highest unemployment rates.
