Sheridan woman killed after car hits semitrailer

A Sheridan woman was killed Wednesday after her car rear-ended a tractor-trailer parked on the road in Grant County, authorities said.

It happened about 6:15 a.m. as Paula M. Francis drove a Buick Regal south on Grant County Road 75 outside Sheridan, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Investigators say a 2007 Western semitrailer was parked in the southbound lane and that the Regal hit its rear.

Francis, who would have turned 45 on Thursday, died from unspecified injuries.

The report described conditions at the time as clear and dry.

The death raises to 457 the number of fatalities in traffic accidents in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
