Sex offender living near daycare warned, then arrested, police say

A sex offender was arrested Wednesday when he reported he was living near a Little Rock daycare after being warned months earlier it wasn't allowed, police said.

Dedrick Harris, 31, is being held in the Pulaski County jail on a charge of being a registered sex offender living near a school or daycare.

Police say Harris was warned in June that his residence at 7916 Burnelle Drive was too close to a daycare and that he had 30 days to move.

On Wednesday, Harris responded to police headquarters for a verification of his registry information and he "indicated that he was still residing" at the same address, according to an arrest report.

Bail for Harris is set at $10,000.

Online court and registry records show Harris was convicted in 2000 of first-degree carnal abuse.
