LITTLE ROCK — The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is making progress in its effort to have a backup electric generator in place to power the entire campus.
School officials said Wednesday that a test of the new generator station was successful in powering a section of the campus last week.
Entergy Arkansas provides power to the campus. During a winter storm a year ago that caused widespread power failures across Entergy's system, dormitories at UALR were without electricity for two days.
UALR Associate Vice Chancellor David Millay said that episode won't be repeated once the generator system is in place.
When complete, the generator station will produce 10 megawatts of power without having to use the outside power grid.
The system is to be completed by 2015.
