Police: Two charged in 6-year-old boy's kidnapping

Benton police have arrested two people in the kidnapping of a 6-year-old boy that occurred earlier this week.

Police responded to a residential burglary report about 2:50 a.m. Tuesday at a home located on Hobbs Road, where the homeowner said that someone had broken into his residence while he was sleeping and had kidnapped his child, according to a statement from the Benton Police Department.

The victim told officers that he thought he had heard "a noise and saw somebody in his home earlier in the night, but when he looked, he didn't see anybody," the news release states.

The victim later received a call about 11:40 p.m. Wednesday from a Saline County sheriff's deputy who said he had found the child walking down the street about a mile from the home.

An investigation into the kidnapping later showed that two Benton residents — Amy Dickerson, 30, and Landon Dickerson, 31 — had purportedly broken into the victim's home and kidnapped the child, authorities said.

According to the statement, investigators believe that the kidnappers had abducted the child in an "attempt to interfere with an ongoing custody issue."

Benton Police Department spokesman Lt. Kevin Russell confirmed that both Dickersons are related to the child but refused to say how.

Both Dickersons have been charged with kidnapping, residential burglary and first-degree endangerment of the welfare of a minor. They are both being held at the Saline County jail without bond.

An investigation is ongoing and additional charges in the case are possible, the release states.
